Got Dyslexia?

Do you feel you think differently than everybody else?

Do you struggle to read text?

Then you may have Dyslexia.

In its most severe form you may have great difficulty in interpreting and remembering new information.

Some interesting facts:

  • 20% (1 in 5) of the population have Dyslexia
  • 35% (1 in 3) of all Dyslexics drop out of high school, and
  • 50% (1 in 2) of adolescents involved in drug and alcohol rehabilitation have dyslexia
  • 60% of juvenile delinquents have dyslexia.

It’s possible that you may have been labelled as dumb, unintelligent, not smart, as having a learning difficulty, or that you can’t read. The list of shaming labels is almost endless. That’s because we live in a society that is obsessed with learning by text.

The education system and society in general simply struggles to cater for the needs of Dyslexics.

That means you are likely to have been tricked into believing you will never be good enough, you don’t fit in or you can never achieve anything.

At BSetFree we help people of all ages to recover from the effects of shaming. We emphasize the importance of understanding and supporting individuals with different neurological conditions such as Dyslexia. We encourage compassion and patience, recognizing that everyone has unique strengths and challenges. We promote inclusive practices to ensure that all feel valued and supported.

Biblical Perspective around Dyslexia

The Bible encourages kindness, understanding, and support for all individuals, regardless of their differences.
Here are a few relevant scriptures from the New World Translation (NWT):

  • Psalm 139:14: “I praise you because in an awe-inspiring way I am wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful, I know this very well.”

This verse highlights the belief that everyone is wonderfully made by God, emphasizing the value and uniqueness of each person.

  • 1 Corinthians 12:12-27: This passage discusses the body of Christ, comparing it to a human body with many parts, each with its own function. Verses 25-26 state: “So that there should be no division in the body, but its members should have mutual concern for one another. If one member suffers, all the other members suffer with it; or if a member is glorified, all the other members rejoice with it.”

This analogy underscores the importance of unity and mutual support within the community, recognizing that every individual has a vital role to play.

  • Romans 12:10: “In brotherly love have tender affection for one another. In showing honour to one another, take the lead.”

This verse encourages showing love and honour to one another, fostering an environment of respect and care.

These scriptures and insights can help us appreciate the importance of embracing neurodiversity and supporting each other in a compassionate and inclusive manner.
